Our story

We are a team of three electronic engineering students from Colombia. It all started as a challenge. In our first semester, we were asked to find a problem that was frequent in our country and give it a solution with our knowledge of electronics. We began to notice 2 major problems: firstly it was very difficult for cyclists to communicate with other road actors, they were supposed to indicate their next movement by extending their arms on the direction they are turning but this led to confusions on the road, if the car driver didn’t see them or didn’t understand their indications. Secondly, there was a problem with the visibility of the cyclists on the road because they didn’t use reflective clothes which makes it very difficult to see them at night. Both of this problems make using the bike as a means of transportation dangerous for cyclists because of the probability of an accident.

Due to the pandemic, people began to use bicycles more as a means of daily transport to avoid crowds and infections. When all of this happened we saw a unique opportunity for Road lightning, so we went back to work on the prototype and ideas on how to improve it. We thought about what would be the best design, how it could be printed, what materials to use to make it of good quality but accessible to everyone. Taking this into account we managed to develop the prototype we have at the moment, a waterproof and customizable jacket that solves the problem of visibility and communication on the road.

2nd Latin American Engineering Congress
The EIEI ACOFI 2019 brought together deans, academic directors, professors and engineering students, representatives of the productive sector, State entities, unions and society, who studied, debated and reflected on the contribution of the faculties, teachers and programs for wellness and advancement.
At ACOFI we got the opportunity to present our project, represent our university at different workshops and receive feedback from other people like students, teachers and representatives that helped us to decide our next steps and what we should improve in order to get the product to the next level.

START Fellowship Program
The START Fellowship is an accelerator program that is entirely free and consists of two parts, an online and an offline part. The program provides you with the necessary knowledge, practices and connections needed to bring your venture to the next level. We are part of the second iteration of the program and were selected to be part of the offline program where we have been learning and taking our startup to the next level with the help of the workshops, mentors and other fellows of the program.
